نعم يجوز له الحضور والجلوس إذا كان يتَّصف بالأدب والفطنة، قال ابن عبَّاس -رضي الله عنهما-: كان عمر يدخلني مع أشياخ بدر. (البخاري). وكان ابن عبَّاس فتى.

Yes, it is permissible for him to attend and sit if he is characterized by good manners and intelligence. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: 'Umar used to bring me in with the elders of Badr.' (Al-Bukhari). And Ibn Abbas was [at that time] a youth.
